WART SOLUTION

5-FU and SALICYLIC ACID IN DIMETHYL SULFOXIDE SOLUTION

 

Medication:

Salicylic Acid is keratolytic. It helps loosen the skin that makes up the wart. 5-Fluorouracil is classified as an antimetbolite. It interferes with the growth of abnormal cells.

 

Use:

This solution is used to treat viral warts.

 

Side Effects:

This medication may cause allergic contact dermatitis, burning, dryness, irritation, rash, local pain or soreness, swelling, crusting, erosion, redness of the area, increased pigment in the skin (darkening of the skin area). Photosensitivity, itching, and scarring are also possible. It is possible that a pink, smooth area is left when the skin treated with 5-fluorouracil heals. This area usually fades within 1 to 2 months.

 

Precautions:

This medication should not be used if you are pregnant, are trying to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredient in this product. If your wart(s) have hair growing from them, check with your doctor before using this product. Also check with your doctor before applying this to warts on your face, birthmarks, or moles. Check with your doctor before using abrasive soaps, skin products that contain alcohol, or other medicated products to the area. Call your doctor if you develop confusion; dizziness; long lasting or severe headache; rapid breathing; or continuous ringing or buzzing in the ears. If you notice a garlic taste in your mouth or a garlic smelling breath, contact your prescriber.

 

Directions:

Use this medication as directed by your prescriber. Wash area and let it dry for 10 minutes prior to use. Apply using applicator brush that comes with the product. Avoid putting occlusive coverings over the area. Do not let product get to mouth, nostrils, or eyes. If the wart(s) spread or continue after treatment check with your doctor. Generally dispensed in one 15 ml bottle.

 

Missed Dose:

If you miss a dose, and remember within a few hours, apply it as soon as possible. If it has been more than a few hours, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal dosing schedule. Do not apply twice as much the next time you apply the product.

 

Storage:

This medication should be kept in the container it is dispensed in and stored out of the reach of children. Keep medication at controlled room temperature, protected from air, moisture and light. Keep the bottle closed tightly.

The cost varies due to individualized patient drug therapy.
